Worst Day Ever… Until Tomorrow.
I’m just going to let the comic’s storyline speak for itself. I mean, if you don’t understand what’s going on after reading it, then my explaining it down here isn’t going to make it any better.
Instead, I thought I’d touch on one of my envies as a comic artist: Dutch angles. Well, actually, it’s more than just that, it’s the ability to frame the panel from any point of view. Like, what would the scene look like if the camera were on the ceiling looking down? What if I were in the sink looking up? Seeing the scene from any angle would make the story so much more interesting.
So when I created the first panel in today’s comic, I was really proud of myself for conveying a sense of depth. It’s not something I normally do even though it’s not actually any different.
You see, I can’t actually depict my characters outside of three quarter view and portrait. OK, so in this case we actually see the back of Brandon’s head, but still… It’s not the same as being able to see my characters as if they were real objects.
And there in lies one of my most irritating limitations… I don’t even know what Brandon would look like from above. How the heck can I draw something I can’t even imagine? And who could I even turn to to even help me imagine it? It’s just frustrating.
OK, well thanks for tuning in. I’m still enjoying working on this story arc. Believe it or not, I’m just making this shit up as I go, and I’m not quite sure where I’m going with it yet. In any event, Brandon’s “bad day” has at least a couple more episodes before I can wrap it up and move on.
