That Subtle Look in Your Eye
As I mentioned last week, I had been working on the eyes. Some time ago I started developing an “almond” eye but gave up. A remnant of my work remained in some of the character templates and it occasionally taunted me. Well I finally went ahead and made it happen.
Before we go any further, I should probably clarify that what I’m really trying to create is the look of an epicanthic fold like you see in many Asians, Polynesians, and Indigenous Americans. It’s that attractively exotic look that makes caucasians look boring and dull by comparison.
Unfortunately it’s hard to see a significant difference between the “almond” eye and the round eye in scenes like the panel above. While still subtle, it is more apparent in a closeup:
Holy shit. When you get that far up close, they seem to have noses too!
