It’s not quite hell, but maybe it will do.

It’s not quite hell, but maybe it will do.

Well this one took forever to make. The original expected date of publishing on the development file was February 24. Hopefully the next one won’t take so long, but as of right now I don’t have a clue as to where I’m going from here.

It’s funny, because the holdup was something rather mundane. I was having trouble trying to figure out how to draw the opening scene. Being self taught and lacking talent can lead to paralyzing moments. In the past, I would punt by drawing it badly or use the stock profile images or abruptly move on to something else, but this time I wanted to see it through.

Basically I had to figure out how to draw Brandon and Temno from the rear, and how to draw Tyler walking towards the viewer. One sore spot was Brandon’s shoes. After working far too long I finally got it right only to have Tyler’s speech bubble covered it up. (I swear, the shoes under the speech bubble looked great!)

In our modern world, we tend to take things for granted. Everything is already done for us, so if someone did it, it must have been easy. But who among us can actually build a road or the car that drives on it? Who can design a microchip or write an operating system? Who can write a symphony or play like a virtuoso? Creation is harder than it looks. Bob Ross made painting happy little trees seem so easy, but if you ever tried it yourself, you’d understand that there’s a lot more to it than just dabbing a brush.

So I kept setting things aside, and when I did work on it, I’d get sidetracked and fall down a rabbit hole filled with aimless ignorance and bad ideas. In the end, I learned a lot, but ultimately I learned nothing, because after 20 years, I still kinda suck at this.

So as I alluded earlier, it’s probably gonna be a few weeks for the next comic. Mostly while I think of where the story goes next, but I’ve also got a lot going on IRL. Nothing major, I’m just busy.

Meanwhile, if you have any thoughts on this story arc, I’d love to hear them. Do you like Temno or is he lame? Let me know in the comments below!
