Happy Birthday, Gail!
You know I almost forgot it, and just by chance I remembered. Today is Gail's 5th birthday! That's right! That little puppy I started posting pictures of back in 2019 is a full 5 years old today.
You might have noticed I stopped posting weekly pictures of her a while ago. For the most part, she had stopped growing, so there really wasn't that much of a change from week to week. Also, I was having trouble finding the time to make the effort.
Rest assured, Gail keeps on being an indomitable force in my life. Never does a day go by that I'm not forced to wait on hand and foot to this ornery critter. Other than when I'm at work, Gail is almost always with me. You'd think she'd be better behaved by now, but this dog loses her shit every time she sees a ball... or another dog... or food... or just realizes when we've turned down any of the roads on the way to one of her many favorite places.
To say this dog is spoiled would be an understatement. To me, spoiling means you treat them better than they deserve. With my previous dog, Grace, she was so good, spoiling was effectively impossible, but with Gail, spoiling is simply unavoidable. She lacks any sort of self-control or discipline, and she isn't shy about letting you know how she feels in any given situation. If you have her on a leash, you better be careful because she can easily dislocate your shoulder.
But Gail is also easy to love. It's amazing how she is such a people magnet. Gail has her own fan club, and people take walks by my yard just to come up to the fence to say hi to Gail and pet her. She's very friendly and wants nothing more than to eat, play, and be loved.
Oh, and to poop... Soooo much poop!
So happy birthday Baby Gail!

What is Flush Twice?
Flush Twice has been around since May of 2003. It started out as a JOTD (Joke of the Day) website. New jokes were published every weekday. Over the years, good jokes were increasingly hard to come by, and eventually they got so rare that I just stopped trying to publish them.
Since 2004 there has also been an eponymous comic. I still occasionally publish a new one on Saturdays. It’s also rare anymore, but sometimes it happens.
Here lately I’ve been posting a “Link of the Day”. For the time being, I will be featuring a new website from my enormous collection of bookmarked websites every weekday. None of it is solicited promotions, and no one is paying me to feature their site. These are just websites that at one time I thought were interesting enough to add to my bookmarks folder.
I highly encourage using some kind of ad blocking extension before clicking on any of these links. You’ll also hear me say this phrase a lot about these posts: “They can’t all be winners.” But it’s better than just leaving the site abandoned.
The jokes were generously provided by friends and visitors such as yourself. I want to express my eternal thanks to everyone over the years who helped contribute to the collection.
So what is it that makes a joke funny?
It all boils down to a sudden shift in perception. The story starts you thinking one way, then the punchline turns that thinking on its ear. The art of the joke is to craft a short story that isn’t overly contrived, then deliver a punchline that suddenly shifts your perception about the story you were being told.
Many of the jokes on this site are offensive, and I make no apologies for it. Offensive jokes work by making the reader uncomfortable through the use of a taboo subject thus enhancing the underlying humor. Without the offensive element, the joke would simply not be as funny.

Paper Soldier
A unit commander noticed one of his soldiers behaving oddly. The soldier would pick up various pieces of paper that he found lying around, frown and say, “That’s not it” and put them down again.
This went on for some time, until the commander arranged to have the soldier psychologically tested.
The psychologist concluded that the soldier was deranged, and wrote out a recommendation for discharge from the army.
The soldier picked it up, smiled and said, “That’s it.”
The Opposite Twins
A family had twin boys whose only resemblance to each other was their looks. Opposite in every other way, one was an eternal optimist, while the other a dismal pessimist.
It was the twins’ 9th birthday. Just to see what would happen the father loaded the pessimist’s room with every imaginable toy and game. In the optimist’s room he loaded it with a pile of horse manure.
Later that night, the father passed by the pessimist’s room and found him sitting amid his new gifts crying sorrowfully.
“Why are you crying?” the father asked.
“Because my friends will be jealous, I’ll have to read all these instructions before I can do anything with this stuff, I’ll constantly need batteries, and my toys will eventually get broken,” cried the unhappy pessimist.
Passing the optimist twin’s room a moment later, the father found the boy dancing for joy in the pile of manure.
“What are you so happy about?” he asked.
His optimist son replied, “I figure there’s got to be a pony in here somewhere!”
Some Childish Antics
While trying to get ahold of an associate over the phone, the caller was greeted by a child whispering, “Hello.”
“Is your Daddy home?” he asked.
“Yes,” whispered the small voice.
“May I talk with him?”
The child whispered, “No.”
Surprised and wanting to talk with an adult, the man asked, “Is your Mommy there?”
“Yes.”
“May I talk with her?”
Again the small voice whispered, “No.”
Hoping there was someone with whom he could leave a message, the man asked, “Is anyone else there?”
“Yes,” whispered the child, “a policeman.”
Wondering what a cop would be doing at his associate’s home, the man asked, “May I speak with the policeman?”
“No, he’s busy,” whispered the child.
“Busy doing what?”
“Talking to Mommy and Daddy and the Fireman,” came the whispered answer.
Growing more worried as he heard a loud noise through the earpiece on the phone, the man asked, “What is that noise?”
“A helicopter,” answered the whispering voice.
“What is going on there?” demanded the man, now truly apprehensive.
Again, whispering, the child answered, “The search team just landed a helicopter.”
Alarmed, confused, and a little frustrated, the man asked, “What are they searching for?”
Still whispering, the young voice replied with a muffled giggle, ”Me!”
Brain Food
A cannibal walked into a meat market to buy something for dinner. When the cannibal began to inspect the meat case, he noticed the market specialized in brains. Upon further inspection, he noticed a marked disparity between the costs of brain meats.
It seemed that carpenter brains were going for $1.50 per pound, while plumber brains cost $2.25 per pound. The cannibal then noticed with alarm that politician brains were selling for $375.00 a pound.
With overwhelming curiosity, he asked the owner why the huge difference in the price of brains.
With a deadpan expression, the owner responded, “Do you have any idea how many politicians it takes to get a pound of brains?”
Considerable Contact
A teenager lost his contact lens while playing basketball in the driveway. After a brief but fruitless search, he gave up. His mother took up the cause and within minutes she had found the lens.
“I looked everywhere, how did you do that?” he asked.
“We weren’t looking for the same thing,” she explained. “You were looking for a small piece of plastic. I, on the other hand, was looking for $150!”

Getting Back to Normal (Whatever that is)
So I got my two vehicles back from the mechanic. They seem to be running just fine. The total bill for both the SUV and sedan was around $1400. It’s a good thing I make so much money off my comics, or I’d be hurtin’ right now.
Actually, it was paid for with overtime. I’ve been putting in a lot of 60 hour weeks lately. It’s almost eerie how when I don’t get overtime, I still manage to get by, but the moment I’m getting slammed with it, suddenly a series of catastrophes pop up to take the spoils of my hard work away.
I could use a break though. The good news is that I’m off this weekend… The bad news is, it’s to attend my sister’s memorial service. Don’t you just hate those things?
I loved my sister. She and I shared the same cynical sense of humor. I had hoped that one day after I retired, we could frequently spend mornings together sipping coffee or tea while reminiscing about when we were young. At this rate, the only thing I’ll get to reminisce with is a lonely bottle of 40 proof liquor.
At least the car runs good.

My Talented Roommate
The Language Barrier
A Swiss tourist was visiting Australia. He pulled up at a bus stop where two locals were waiting.
“Entschuldigung, koennen Sie Deutsch sprechen?” he asked.
The two Aussies just stared at him.
“Excusez-moi, parlez vous Francais?” he tried.
The two continued to stare.
“Parlare Italiano?”
No response.
“Hablan ustedes Espanol?”
Still nothing, and the the frustrated Swiss drove off in disgust.
The one Aussie turned to the other and said, “Y’know, maybe we should learn a foreign language.”
“Why?” said the other. “That guy knew four languages, and it didn’t do him any good.”
Bonus:
How do you make a Swiss roll?
Push him down a hill.
Design Testing
An inventive young fellow had created a new bicycle design and wanted to test its stability at high speeds. He asked a friend, who owned a Mustang, if he could tie his bike to the bumper of the car to test his new design. His friend said, “Sure.”
So the young man tied the bike to the back of the car and instructed his friend, “I’ll ring my bike bell once if I want you to go faster, twice if I want you maintain speed, and repeatedly if I want you to slow down.”
With that, off they went. Things were going pretty well as the vehicle accelerated to well over 60 mph. The young fellow on the bike was handling the speed just fine.
All of sudden, a Corvette came up beside the Mustang and revved its engine. The driver of the Mustang forgot all about his friend on the bike and took off drag racing the Corvette.
A mile down the road a police cruiser clocked the two racing vehicles at over 100 mph! The officer called into headquarters on his radio. “Hey, you guys aren’t going to believe this, but there’s a Corvette and a Mustang racing out here, and some guy on a bicycle is ringing his bell trying to pass them!”
